Just Wait

Just Wait…Did You Say Wait?

“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” Isaiah 40:31 ESV.

Amazing this verse. Isn’t it just beautiful? Do you find it encouraging and uplifting? Our strength will be renewed. We will mount on wings like eagles.

hope like eagles wings

Oh, how an eagle soars with wings spread wide, gliding across the sky. To be like that.

We will run and not be weary.

Imagine running miles and miles and never feeling winded or tired. For some, maybe, but for most, it is impossible.

We will walk and not faint.

I have suffered foot pain for most of my life. I’ve had over seven surgeries on my feet alone! As much as I wish I could say, they successfully saved me from foot pain. I still suffer, so this hits me hard.

I can’t imagine never feeling faint when walking as I have too many times before.

And I love to walk. Do you?

So the question is...How do we receive all of this? How do we fly, run, and walk with strength and endurance? We wait on the Lord. “but they who...(what? )WAIT for the Lord shall...”

We don’t receive renewed strength by working, striving, or even trying.

We receive by simply waiting on the Lord.

The world would call this passive, yet in God’s world, it’s the opposite. By waiting on God, we receive strength. We receive His strength, and His endurance through Him.

For those, like me, who are impatient waiters. Who likes action steps. Who likes action plans. Who likes to know what’s next, and who doesn’t like to wait for answers — this verse offers a challenge but also encouragement. It begs us to take a breath, slow down, and wait.

To wait — but not passively - expectantly.

If we feel we have to do something.. then I challenge us that the “to do” is to wait expectantly. To expect our prayers to be answered, to expect that God will provide, to expect that God will fix what needs fixing, to expect that God has the end written, to expect that God will come hrough!

When we do... look at all we will receive.

Heavenly Father. You love us so deeply you have such wonderful plans for us. Plans to make us rise above and soar. Help me to wait expectantly for you, for what you have planned for me so that I can soar on wings like eagles. Amen
